Andy Blunda is a Los Angeles–based composer and multi-instrumentalist whose career spans touring, recording, and television scoring.
He began studying music at age ten, learning ragtime piano from library records before moving into formal training in music reading and classical piano performance. He went on to study classical piano at Biola University, where he also began playing guitar and formed an alternative rock band with classmates. After an early campus performance, the band was signed to Seattle indie label Tooth & Nail Records and recorded an album with producer Armand Petri (Goo Goo Dolls, Sixpence None the Richer).
Blunda’s professional career expanded into touring and session work, including performing guitar and keyboards with Fastball during their international tour following the success of “The Way.” In the early 2000s, he joined Paloalto after contributing as a session musician on recordings for Rick Rubin’s American Recordings. He later became a full member of the band, recording two albums under Rubin’s production.
Throughout the 2000s, Blunda worked as a touring and session musician with artists including Jason Falkner, Zoe Bonham, REO Speedwagon, and Stabbing Westward, while continuing to write and produce music independently.
In 2010, he transitioned into composing for television, co-writing music for Original Productions’ Coal before joining the company as an in-house composer. Over the past 13+ years, he has composed music for series including Jay Leno’s Garage, Botched, Married to Medicine, Deadliest Catch, Jersey Shore, Storage Wars, and 5 Guys a Week.
His awards include First Place in the Biola Piano Competition, the Outstanding Musician Award at Biola University, and the ASCAP Film and Television Music Award for After the Catch.
